With the 2026 election season kicking off, Clarendon County voters will spot a fresh name on the ballot for county auditor. Kimberly Herbert isn’t just another candidate, she’s someone who’s built her life around public service, faith, and a real push for accountability. After plenty of thought and prayer, she’s stepping up for the job.
Kimberly’s a wife, a mom, a Sumter native, but a long time employee and now resident of Clarendon County. She’s an active member at Summerton Baptist Church, and like many residents here, she’s frustrated with elected officials who just don’t seem to listen or take responsibility, and that’s what pushed her to run for office.
“I’m an ordinary citizen who believes county government should work for the people it serves,” she says.
Kimberly’s background is a mix of private business and hands-on government work. Growing up in her family’s business, she learned early what it means to serve customers and stay accountable. She believes those skills matter, especially in public office.
Her experience goes deeper than that. She’s worked at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and currently in the Clarendon County Assessor’s Office, where she got to know the ins and outs of real and personal property taxes. She knows firsthand how these processes hit home for local families, and if voters choose her, Kimberly’s main goal is to rebuild public trust.
Her campaign stands on four main ideas:
Transparency
Kimberly wants the Auditor’s Office to be open and easy to understand. Tax information, like exemptions, should be simple to find and clear to everyone. When tax laws leave room for interpretation, she promises to stand up for what helps taxpayers most.
Efficiency and Effectiveness
She’s big on making the office run smoother and smarter. For Kimberly, that means better service, stronger performance, and making sure the public truly gets what they pay for.
Fairness
Kimberly insists on keeping things fair. As auditor, she’ll handle disputes and apply tax laws without playing favorites. That’s non-negotiable for her.
Accountability
She’s clear: The Auditor’s Office should set the standard, meet deadlines, show real results, and be the example for the rest of county government.
Kimberly Herbert brings local ties, real technical know-how, and a steady commitment to transparency. She’s aiming to be the taxpayers’ voice in Clarendon County, and in the 2026 election, voters get to decide: stick with the old way, or try a new approach, one that, as Kimberly says, means working with you for a change.
