Clarendon County Fire Rescue: Serving on the Call and in the Community

By PSA Newsroom Staff

Clarendon County, S.C. — Clarendon County Fire Rescue (CCFR) closed out December 2025 with 681 emergency responses, a reminder of the department’s vital role as both a fire suppression agency and the county’s primary Emergency Medical Services provider.

Those calls included 6 structure fires, 24 grass fires, 6 vehicle fires, 24 vehicle accidents, 562 medical calls, 12 hazardous response investigations, and 47 good-intent responses where no emergency was found upon arrival.

While emergency response defines much of their work, CCFR firefighters also remain connected to the community in quieter moments. One December evening, firefighters stopped at the Manning Chick-fil-A, supporting a local business while spending time among the residents they serve — a simple but telling example of their presence beyond emergency scenes.

“Service doesn’t end when the sirens stop. Clarendon County firefighters are neighbors first, responders always.”

Operating from stations across the county, CCFR personnel provide fire suppression, emergency medical care, vehicle accident response, hazardous materials investigations, and public safety education, along with a Community Paramedic Program focused on prevention and long-term health support.

The department continues to operate during a leadership transition following the retirement of former Fire Chief Michael Johnson. County Administrator Walt Ackerman confirmed that “the current command staff is handling operations until the Chief is hired. Interviews will be held soon.”

Despite the transition, county officials say CCFR remains fully staffed, mission-focused, and committed to protecting lives and property across Clarendon County.
