WASHINGTON — The House Committee on Ethics has confirmed it is reviewing a matter involving Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) after receiving a referral from the Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC) on Dec. 2, 2025 .
The bipartisan leaders of the committee announced they have extended their review, a procedural step allowed under House rules. The committee stressed that this action does not indicate wrongdoing.
“The mere fact of a referral or an extension … does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee,” the chairman and ranking member said in a joint statement .
What is being investigated?
The Ethics Committee has not publicly disclosed the specific allegations or conduct under review. By rule, details of OCC referrals are often kept confidential during the preliminary review stage.
However, media reports have indicated the matter may involve questions surrounding lodging expenses or reimbursement practices related to Mace’s congressional duties. No formal findings have been announced, and the committee has not confirmed those details publicly.
What happens next?
The Ethics Committee is required to announce its next course of action — whether to dismiss the matter, continue reviewing it, or open a full investigation — by March 2, 2026 .
At this stage, the review remains procedural, and Rep. Mace has not been accused of a violation by the committee.
