COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has chosen State Senator Mike Reichenbach as his running mate in the 2026 race for governor. Wilson, a four-term Republican who is seeking his party’s nomination to succeed the term-limited Governor Henry McMaster, announced the selection on January 9, 2026.
Reichenbach, a Republican representing Florence and Darlington counties in the South Carolina Senate, will run as Wilson’s candidate for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket. The choice makes Wilson the first candidate in the race to publicly name a running mate.
In a campaign statement, Wilson praised Reichenbach’s record and emphasized shared goals. “Mike Reichenbach has a proven record of getting results,” Wilson said, adding that together they will focus on protecting families, enhancing conservative leadership, and improving economic opportunity for South Carolinians.
Reichenbach, a small business owner before entering politics, highlighted shared priorities in his remarks. “This election is about the future of South Carolina,” he said. “We want a state that honors faith, strengthens families, and protects individual freedoms.”
Reichenbach serves on several Senate committees, including Banking and Insurance, Judiciary, and Transportation, and has been active in advancing conservative policy priorities since his election.
Wilson’s announcement comes as the Republican primary field continues to take shape. Other candidates in the governor’s race include Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, and State Sen. Josh Kimbrell, among others.
