CLARENDON COUNTY, SC: The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office demonstrated a high operational tempo in December 2025, responding to 1,992 calls for service across the county. These calls reflect the broad and complex responsibilities placed on deputies serving a largely rural community.
During the month, deputies conducted 488 traffic stops, responded to 117 alarm calls, handled 23 domestic incidents, and addressed 92 civil disturbances. They also managed 84 animal complaints, completed 137 civil papers served, and conducted an impressive 755 property checks, underscoring a strong emphasis on proactive patrol and crime prevention.

Deputies are responsible for securing scenes, establishing safety perimeters, and ensuring public safety until additional responding agencies arrive. This frontline role places deputies at the center of emergency response — from traffic incidents and domestic calls to major public safety events.
Coverage Area & Population Served
The Sheriff’s Office provides countywide law enforcement coverage across approximately 607 square miles of land (about 696 square miles total including water), serving an estimated 31,000 to 33,000 residents.

- Animal-related complaints
- Preventative patrol and property checks
Summary
The numbers reflect an agency that is not only reactive to emergencies but also deeply engaged in preventative policing and community presence, all while serving as the first line of response and scene security for incidents countywide.
