Clarendon County Councilman William J. Frierson, Sr. Passes Away

Clarendon County officials have confirmed the death of William James (W.J.) Frierson, Sr., longtime Clarendon County Councilman and community leader.

According to county officials, Frierson died Friday, Dec. 26, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. He was 72 years old.

In an official statement, Clarendon County acknowledged Frierson’s decades of service:

“Clarendon County is deeply saddened by the passing of Councilman Reverend William James (W.J.) Frierson, Sr. A devoted public servant, respected minister, and trusted community leader, Councilman Frierson faithfully served Clarendon County for 30 years, beginning in January 1995, with integrity, compassion, and enduring commitment.
His leadership in county government and his lifelong dedication to faith and service touched countless lives and leave a lasting legacy within our community.”

Clarendon County Council Chairman Jay Johnson also issued a brief statement following the announcement:

“Clarendon County has lost a faithful servant and exceptional man. Prayers for the family of Council Member Mr. W.J. Frierson.”

Frierson served on Clarendon County Council for three decades and was widely known in the community through both his public service and ministry.
