Voter Registration & Elections Board of Clarendon County Selects New Director Candidate; Applicants Needed for Vacant Seats

Manning, SC – The Voters Registration & Elections Board of Clarendon County voted on Jan. 26, 2026, to select “Candidate A” as its preferred candidate for the director position, subject to completion of the county’s hiring process. The decision was made during the Board’s regular monthly meeting.


The motion passed with “yes” votes from Chairman Ed Gamble, Co-Chair Brian Magaw, Mary Jo Ardis, and Lanette Samuels (participated by telephone). Board member Michael Streath voted “no,” while Secretary Andrea Killman abstained. The position carries an annual salary of $57,000.


Once all county hiring procedures are completed, Chairman Gamble will publicly announce the name of the new director.


The Board meeting also included information regarding the current composition of the Board and its functions. Clarendon County officials emphasized that the Voter Registration & Elections Board plays a critical role in overseeing voter registration and election administration in the county. Those duties include planning and coordinating elections, ensuring compliance with state and federal law, and maintaining voter registration records.


Chairman Gamble reported that the Board is actively seeking applicants to fill three vacant board seats. Residents interested in serving are encouraged to apply through the Clarendon County Legislative Delegation website:

These appointments are made by the Governor of South Carolina after an extensive screening process of each candidate (including background checks) by the county legislative delegation.
